How to host a"First Birthday Party"with style (and not too much stress!)
Your baby's first birthday is a huge milestone. Not only is your little one growing up, but you (pat on the back) have managed to keep them alive and healthy FOR A WHOLE YEAR!
However, arranging a first birthday can be slightly more intimidating (and hard work) than it needs to. So here's my foolproof way on how to pull off a First Birthday party with ease.
1. The Decorations
We got all of our decorations from the fabulous Little Baby Company. They have a lovely page on their website dedicated to parties andthere are some wonderful ideas when it comes to choosing a theme. From paper plates, to bunting, all the way over to colourful fans and pom poms, you really can get everything you need in just one click. The quality is fabulous and (dare I admit it?) the decorations are STILL up in our home 2 months later. (Why? Because they look so gorgeous!)
2. The Theme
I must admit, I got slightly stressed out about a 'theme' for the party. Should I bother? Would anyone actually notice? However when I stumbled across these amazing 'adventurer' themed party decorations from The Little Baby Company I just couldn't resist. We actually call Rupert our 'little Bear Grylls' (after the TV adventurer) because Rupert will climb up, over, in and out of anything, so this theme seemed perfectly fitting for our little man.
3. The personalised touches
Just to add something a little bit special, I printed photos of Rupert from his first year -starting at week one all the way up to week 52. They were all printed in black and white (I always think photos look more sophisticated this way!) and hung up around the house for family and friends to ogle (or was that just me?)
6. The Birthday Cake
As a new mother, the FIRST BIRTHDAY CAKE strikes the fear of God into my heart. I was very happy to pop out to M&S and buy one, but Patrick insisted that the first ever birthday cake should be lovingly made and prepared by the mother. Panic set in..until....
I stumbled across the wonderful website Craft and Crumb (if it's your child's birthday coming up, google them immediately!) This innovative company supplies cake baking kits with everything you need to cake your first birthday cake, including VERY easy instructions to follow ! Think of it as a Gusto or Hello Fresh for Birthday cakes. You will never be intimated when it comes to baking again!.
6. The food
I cheated a little bit here.
The last thing you want to do on your baby's first birthday is be running around the kitchen, cooking and cleaning. Which is why COOK, stepped in and saved the day. We had 30 family members and friends coming over to celebrate so I simply went online and ordered some delicious looking salads, a roast ham, smoked salmon and a couple of quiches. The morning of, I took them out, plated them up and we were all ready to go. It couldn't have been simpler.
7. The presents
Rupert was thoroughly spoilt with some amazing presents. But rather than take you through them all, you can read my recent blog post The Best Presents for a One Year Old
