Winter essentials that every baby needs

Winter essentials that every baby needs

As the cold weather sets in, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with which products you need to buy your baby to protect them from the cold. Having booked a family ski trip to St Anton (keep posted for the video!) I spent hours trawling websites and shops desperate to make sure I had everything Rupert would need for a week in the snow.

Here’s my list of winter essentials that every baby needs:

The ultimate baby carrier - The Thule Sapling Elite

When out in the mountains and faced with snow and ice, you need to be certain that the baby carrier you use is stable, comfortable and able to embrace any type of weather. The Thule  Sapling Elite is your MUST HAVE if you are heading out to the slopes with a baby. Not only is it officially the most comfortable baby carrier I have ever worn (Rupert is a slightly heavy little man so I was feeling slightly intimidated about carrying him around!) but the Sapling Elite made even my heavy little munchkin feel as light as  a feather!

It is incredible easy to put on, and Patrick and I were able to swap it between parents without any trouble at all, due to its fully adjustable back panel and hip belt. It also has great storage for all baby essentials such as nappies, toys and rain/snow gear and (the best bit!) even has a mirror so you can monitor your precious cargo!!

A merino wool bobble hat

I’ve been a huge fan of merino wool since Rupert was born due to the fact it is so soft and comfortable and a huge contrast to bulky and itchy traditional wool. It’s also great for babies with eczema or allergies which I think is really important on baby soft skin! So having a merino wool winter hat was essential for Rupert’s first ski trip to St. Anton.

We took Rupert high up into the mountains to watch his Daddy ski and I must admit I was nervous about him getting chilly but this hat from Scarlet Ribbon Merino kept him incredibly snuggly and cozy. In fact, I’m kind of jealous I couldn’t get one for myself!

The Baby Jogger City Elite

Having been a proud owner of a Bugaboo Bee3 since Rupert was born (perfect for London - not so great for the countryside!) I panicked a little when contemplating which buggy to buy for our trip to the snow.

Thankfully the BabyJogger City Elite came up trumps and I now wouldn’t buy any other pushchair. It was incredibly easy to manoeuvre in the snow and had a huge hood which could be pulled down completely to cover Rupert when it was snowing.

Ill admit that I always struggle when it comes to opening and folding buggies but this is without a doubt the easiest buggy ever to put up and put down. I’ll be writing a full review and doing a video on it soon so keep posted to read a more in-depth review!

Sheepskin baby shoes

What more does a baby need in the winter months than a pair of cosy soft sole slinks? These gorgeous baby shoes from bobux are wool lined and offer that little bit of extra warmth on the cold winter days. The best thing about these soft sole shoes is that they feature a great elastic opening which is designed to be easy to get on- and stay on (even Rupert managed not to lose them in the snow!)

A luxury Baby Snowsuit

No one does luxury baby clothing better than Tartine et Chocolat and this snowsuit is no exception. With a plush fleece lining, detachable mittens and bootees, and a fur trimmed hood, your little one will keep cosy from head to toe. It is also wonderfully easy to get on due to the fact it has just one simple zip. If only it came in adult sizes!

A sheepskin footmuff for the buggy

If there’s one place where your baby 100% needs to keep warm, it’s within their pushchair which is why this gorgeous sheepskin footmuff from  baababy is an essential. I chose the “Fellhoff” (which incidentally also had a fabulous hand muff!) which is made from luxurious lambskin and is compatible  with a large range of buggies (it fitted by bugaboo bee3 and my baby jogger city elite!)

The great thing about this footmuff is that not only did Rupert seem incredibly cosy in it, but it can be unzipped and laid out flat for use as a playmat on your travels. The matching handmuff kept my hands incredibly warm (even without wearing gloves!) as well as making the buggy look stylish in the winter snow! A must have for anyone heading to colder climes with a baby!
