A new mummy must have - your own Chef (*and yes, it is possible!)
As a new mummy, the last thing you want to do is think about cooking. So what would you say if I told you that a new service is out there, especially aimed at new parents, to put an end to any cooking dilemmas?
FoodPrepChef literally get a chef delivered to your home. Forget those companies who deliver you ingredients in a box where you have to cook them yourselves, (I'm talking to you Hello Fresh!), FoodPrepChef goes one step better: you get an ACTUAL, LIVING, BREATHING CHEF.
So, in the name of 'research' I decided to test it out. After a couple of weary nights sleep training Rupert, I couldn't face the thought of sitting down and doing an ocado order, or thumbing through recipe books ,so having heard about FoodPrepChef through friends I decided to log onto their website.
Your own personal Chef? Yes please!
It. was. so, Simple. All I had to do was choose a menu and book a time and date for my chef to arrive. It took all of five minutes and the food choices were delicious (did you know they source all their ingredients from Whole Foods so you also know you are getting the best ingredients out there!)
My Menu (could it get anymore delicious than this?):
Seared steak with green beans, chorizo, cherry tomatoes, roasted fennel and new baby potatoes
Baked salmon fillet with Moroccan spiced carrots, chickpeas, roasted aubergine and rocket leaves
Chilli and coriander marinated chicken with roasted aubergine, tender stem broccoli, mixed seeds, rocket leaves, harissa dressing and super healthy hummus
So, how does it work?
The day before my chef was due to arrive I had a very nice email from the guys at FoodPrepChef letting me know how to prepare for my chef's arrival. "My Chef" - I just love that!
Advice covered making sure that my kitchen surfaces were uncluttered and clean (so that the chef could get to work straight away) and also included a list of kitchen equipment he would need (don't panic - it was simple stuff such as saucepans and dishcloths!) They also suggested that I leave a shelf free in my fridge so that once everything was made the chef could stack it all up and it would then be ready and waiting for me when I got hungry,
What happened on the day?
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't practically hopping from one foot to the other eagerly waiting for my very own chef to arrive! And he didn't disappoint - Angelo arrived armed with bags of gorgeous looking ingrediants and happily settled into my kitchen to start preparing everything.
Rupert was asleep. Angelo was cooking....So for once, in about 5 weeks, I had a precious few hours completely to myself where I didnt have to worry about prepping dinner or washing up (did I mention the chef stacks your washing machine for you too? GENIUS!)
Omg! The Food!!
They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here is what was waiting for me when I ventured down to the kitchen two hours later. The kitchen was spotless, Angelo was packed up and ready to go, and a beautiful array of freshly cooked meals were placed on the kitchen counter, ready for me to drool over (Angelo was about to put them into the fridge but I had to sit and look at them for a bit as they looked so delicious)!
And oh my goodness, the food did not disappoint. There was a part of me that was wondering if it was going to be too good to be true but I can honestly say everything about it was perfect. This was really tasty, healthy and imaginative food that made me feel like I was eating out at a top restaurant.
So, how much does your own chef cost?
I've saved the best for last. It's easy to presume that a service like this is likely to cost the earth. but this is where FoodPrepChef have surpassed themselves. For just 210 GBP your chef will come to your home and create 12 delicious meals and 8 snacks for two people. Your chef will also shop and choose the highest quality produce from WholeFoods.
So spread the word fellow mummies - this is the one luxury you really can afford (And you deserve it right?)
